If you're looking for a complete set with a bar and weights, see the Standard Weight Sets. You can also build your own set with a bar, collars, and weight plates.
Bars / BarbellsAny straight bars here are perfect for beginners, women, and anyone not really into hardcore weight lifting. They're good bench press bars, but pay attention to the width of the rack on your bench. You want the rack to be narrower than the length between the inside collars of the bar. For all straight bars that length is noted in the product description. Threaded BarsSome of these bars are marked as threaded, or with spin-lock collars, also called star-lock collars. With such bars, the ends where you slide on the weights have grooves so that the collars to secure the weights can spin onto the bar like a nut. Some people love these and some hate them. With longer bars it does take a moment to spin the collar all the way on. With dumbbell bars it's pretty quick. Non-Threaded BarsAny bars that are not specifically noted as "threaded" will have smooth ends that will require a set of collars to secure the weight plates. These collars are sold separately. |
