Barbell Weight SetsLooking for smaller sets? See the Standard Weight Sets. Do you already have a bar? Want a different weight set? Build a weight set or contact us for assistance. Olympic barbell weight sets come with a 7ft barbell (usually just called a "bar"), weight plates, and collars to keep the weight plates on. Most or all of these sets include the economy bar, which is a decent beginner bar with a minimum static test of 600 lbs. This is fine for most bodybuilding and powerlifting exercises for beginner lifters, but intermediate or advanced lifters will want a higher quality bar. Keep in mind that a 600lb static test bar doesn't mean you'll be okay putting 600lbs on it. When you drop the bar even a few inches onto a rack, or you bounce at the bottom of a squat, the force is much greater than the loaded weight. Buying a 300lb set doesn't mean you expect to lift 300 lbs. It's about the convenience of being able to load larger weights instead of having to load and unload lots of smaller weights. So someone lifting 225 lbs will make use of all the different sized weights. You can also opt for a 210lb set, which is the same as a 300lb set but without the 45lb plates. These barbell sets are perfect for bench presses, squats, deadlifts, military presses, and many other exercises for bodybuilders, powerlifters, and anyone else that wants to lift weights a bit to get in shape. Building Your Own Weight SetWhen building your own olympic weight set, we recommend you get two of each size weight plate, but four of the 5lb plates. This is because of the large jump between 10lb and 25lb, creating a weight gap at some points that you won't be able to fill without some extra 5lb or 10lb weights. A sample 300lb set usually consists of:
