Olympic Weights

See our popular article: Olympic vs. Standard Weights

A weight set is composed of three components: A bar, weight plates, and two collars to secure the weight plates onto the bar. See below for more information...

Building Your Own Weight Set

When building your own olympic weight set, we recommend you get two of each size weight plate, but four of the 5lb plates. This is because of the large jump between 10lb and 25lb, creating a weight gap at some point that you won't be able to fill without some extra 5lb or 10lb weights.

A sample set might look like:

  • Olympic Bar (weighs 45 lbs)
  • Collars (any will do, but Muscle Clamp are very popular)
  • 2 x 45lb plates
  • 2 x 35lb plates
  • 2 x 10lb plates
  • 4 x 5lb plates
  • 2 x 2.5lb plates
  • Total weight of set: 300 lbs.

You can also build a smaller set by simply excluding the 45lb platse:

  • Olympic Bar (weighs 45 lbs)
  • Collars (any will do, but Muscle Clamp are very popular)
  • 2 x 35lb plates
  • 2 x 10lb plates
  • 4 x 5lb plates
  • 2 x 2.5lb plates
  • Total weight of set: 210 lbs.
